Get Moving Challenge participants can enter "Blue Devil Dash" for free

Duke faculty and staff looking for a physical challenge have an on-campus option this spring.

Duke Recreation and Physical Education will host its second Blue Devil Dash 5K fun run on Sunday, April 13 at the Al Buehler Trail off West Campus. The race, which is open to Duke community members and the public, will take place on the three-mile trail that winds around the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Course.

Registration is now available online for the race. Walk-up registration the day of the race will run from 8 a.m. to the start of the race at 9 a.m. When signing up online, employees can pay the $20 fee through a FLEX account or choose to pay $20 by cash or check on race day.

As a bonus for joining LIVE FOR LIFE's Get Moving Challenge, employees who tracked their fitness in eight of the 10 weeks of the team wellness competition will have their registration fee waived.

Each participant receives an official race T-shirt, although sizes can only be guaranteed to those who register by March 24. After this, sizes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

"For many employees, working toward an end goal is great motivation to get into an exercise routine," said Julie Joyner, manager of LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program. "Our hope is that faculty and staff will come together along with Duke students for a low-pressure, fun race."

Faculty and staff looking to gain an edge in training for the Blue Devil Dash, LIVE FOR LIFE offers the free Run/Walk Club, which begins March 10 and meets at East and West campuses as well as Duke Regional and Raleigh hospitals.
