Duke in Pictures: Coal Pile Drive's Transformation

Over two years, this Duke road has changed dramatically

Duke's campus has been buzzing with growth recently, including this spot on West Campus' Coal Pile Drive. The above photo, taken in in the Spring of 2011, shows Coal Pile Drive before the Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans Center for Health Education was built and before West Campus Steam Plant's restoration work had begun. How much of a transformation has taken place? The photo below, taken this summer, shows Coal Pile Drive with its newly landscaped pedestrian and bike corridor. This new path is a critical link in both the University and Medical Center's Master Plans, calling for an improved connection from West Campus to the Medical Center.
