New Version of SymMon App Now Available

Beginning Aug. 16, daily symptom monitoring no longer required for vaccinated individuals

SymMon App 2.0

Duke released a new version of the SymMon app this week with key updates to address operational changes for the fall semester.

The changes in the 2.0 version of the SymMon app, feature a simplified interface that only asks two questions regarding potential exposure and no longer includes a full list of symptoms for individuals to review and acknowledge. Once submitting the report, the date and time will be reflected on the homepage button for Submit Symptom Monitoring. No pass will be presented upon completion, but anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should not come to campus until cleared by Employee Health or Student Health to do so.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 16, vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to submit daily symptom monitoring to activate their DukeCards, so the interface was simplified for continued use by unvaccinated individuals or any who may experience COVID symptoms.

The app will continue to serve as the primary way students, faculty and staff scan kits for weekly surveillance testing during the year. Instructions for scanning test kits can be found on the Duke United website.

The app also includes easy access to the Status Check website, where members of the Duke community can check the status of their DukeCard, as well as ensure their vaccination status is recorded correctly.

“The SymMon app was developed quickly by our staff last year to address emerging needs related to the pandemic, and we’ve continued to refine and enhance it as our situation evolves,” said Charley Kniefel, senior director for the Office of Information Technology.

The SymMon mobile app is available for free through the Apple app store or Google Play.
