Motorists traveling to and around Duke's East and West campuses should allow for extra travel time beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 25, due to student move-in for the start of the academic year.

NO PARKING ON EAST CAMPUS

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, first-year students will move into residence halls on East Campus. With heavier traffic and an increase in parking needs, all parking areas on East Campus will be cleared of vehicles from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, all East Campus entrances will be closed except to students with authorized passes from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As a parking alternative, Duke community members with East Campus permits can only park in the Smith Warehouse lots off Buchanan Boulevard near the intersection with Maxwell Avenue. Gate access will be granted to all East permit holders on Aug. 20.

Bus service disruptions will occur for most campus routes during the Aug. 20 move-in to accommodate East Campus traffic. Track buses in real time with Duke TransLoc.

TRAFFIC, PARKING ADJUSTMENTS ON WEST CAMPUS

On West Campus, move-in will take place Friday, Aug. 23 to Sunday, Aug. 25 and could slow traffic around Duke University Road and Towerview Road extending to Union Drive.

In addition, heavy traffic is expected around The Hollows residence hall, the circle on Wannamaker Drive and Blue Zone entry gates.

Staff will be positioned at the entrance of these areas around West Campus residence halls to direct permit holders to parking spaces and students to unloading areas.
