Forbes Names Duke a ‘Best Employer’ in 2018
University ranked among top 20 large employers
Forbes named Duke University among its “Best Employers,” ranking the university 18th among large employers on its 2018 list, which was released Tuesday.
Working with online statistics partner Statista, Forbes surveyed 30,000 workers across the country who are employed by companies or institutions that employ at least 1,000 people. Duke ranked 27th on last year’s list.
“Our faculty and staff remain among some of the most talented individuals in the country,” said Duke Vice President for Administration Kyle Cavanaugh. “Over the years, Duke has consistently been recognized as one of the top employers in the nation, and this most recent recognition helps to reinforce the amazing culture that represents our Duke community.”
In addition to 35 questions on work-related topics, the anonymous survey respondents were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer to family and friends and what other employers they would recommend. Duke was recommended often by survey participants who worked for Duke and those that don’t.
Respondents also gave Duke high marks in questions relating to employer transparency and if an employer demonstrates a “climate of trust and fairness.”
Duke has routinely been recognized by a variety of publications as a “Best Employer.” In nine of the last 10 years, the Chronicle of Higher Education has listed Duke as one of its “Great Colleges to Work For.” As an employer, Duke has also earned praise from organizations such as AARP, NC Nurses Association, DiverstyInc, and Carolina Parent.
