Duke Adds New Bus Routes for Academic Year

Among changes, the C5 route has been replaced with a daytime C2 route

As Duke prepares for its new academic year, Parking and Transportation Services will begin its fall bus service on Aug. 22.

In addition to the routes currently in service, the fall semester will add C1, C2, C3, C4 routes.

Several adjustments to this year's transit service is based on feedback from students and employees:

  • The C5 route from 2015-16 has been eliminated and will be replaced with a daytime C2: East-Central-West route with 15 to 20 minute frequency
  • The C4: Central - West route will add peak-hour service between Central and West Campus from 9:05 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. only
  • All Central Campus bus routes (C2, CCX, C4) will be aligned with northbound service on Oregon Street and southbound service on Alexander Avenue, to accommodate the new residential concentrations in those areas.  Students boarding at Central Campus stops should refer to the revised bus maps and/or Transloc Rider for detailed stop location information.  All northbound stops on Alexander Avenue will be removed.
  • The C3: Class Change service has been expanded to add several additional trips throughout the day. Both the C3: East-Science and C3: Class Change routes will remain on a detour until Towerview re-opens to two-way traffic, at which point the C3:Class Change bus will serve stops on Towerview on its way to/from Science Drive.
  • The LL: LaSalle Loop service schedule will change slightly with 15-minute peak morning service from 8 to 10 a.m.

Please note that service disruptions may occur on some campus routes during the August 23 move-in event to accommodate East Campus traffic.

Hospital passengers will note several changes to improve passenger safety and service:

  • The H5: Broad – Erwin route will be adjusted to drop Erwin Mill passengers at a new stop at the corner of Main Street at Ninth Street (#6502) on the return trip to 705 Broad St., due to safety concerns around visibility for drivers making repeated left turns near the intersection. In addition, the H5 will add a stop at Erwin Rd at Lambeth Circle (#5255) in order to service a relocated DUHS department in the building.
  • H2: Hospital Loop passengers will note an additional morning trip at 8:08 a.m. from the H and GC Lots on Yearby Avenue to the Duke Medical Pavilion.
