Diving Into the Deep Ocean With Laura Bagge
Graduate Student films her day on the deep sea sub Alvin
On August 3rd, Duke graduate student Laura Bagge spent nine hours beneath the waves aboard the famous deep sea sub Alvin, catching two phronima, the sea critters she studies and observing other strange facets of the deep.
Part of an NSF-sponsored training cruise, Bagge was one of 24 early-career scientists learning how robotic- and human-operated submarines can be used to study the ecology of the deep sea.
