As Duke employees and students book flights for vacations and business travel, Duke is offering a new way to find potential savings on airfare. The new Duke Delta Air Lines Discount Program helps connect Duke employees and students who have a valid Duke NetID to discount rates through Delta. The discount program can be used for both personal and business travel.Delta and Delta Connection carriers offer about 5,400 daily flights to 326 domestic and international locations. Discounts vary based on location and type of booking. For example, coach-class airfare may be discounted differently than business-class airfare. Discounts range from 2 percent to 30 percent below the regular airfare rates listed on Delta’s website, with minimum discounts generally applying to shorter, frequently traveled U.S. flights. The program provides deeper discounts toward international travel. There is no guarantee that the program will provide lower rates for specific flights, since airfare rates can change hourly. However, the program can be used as another tool to shop around for travel savings, said Jay Senerchia, director of Contracting and Sourcing for Duke Procurement Services. To sign up to use the discount program, employees and students are asked to create a SkyMiles account on the Delta website.  “SkyMiles is easy,” Senerchia said. “You sign in with your account, and you automatically see all of the discounted fares.” Here’s how to sign up for the Duke Delta Air Lines Discount Program:1. Create a SkyMiles account through the Delta website, which allows users to access the Duke discount program, accrue points that are redeemable through Delta Air Lines and receive other travel benefits. 2. Enter your new/current Delta SkyMiles account number, name and Duke NetID into this Duke registration form.  3. After five business days, revisit the Delta website and log in with your SkyMiles account number. The Duke discount program should automatically be incorporated into your account. 4. Select “business” when asked to select type of travel, even if you’re searching flights for personal use. The top of the Delta site will then read “Exclusive Discount Program: Duke University” when you’re searching for flights. If a traveler does not wish to sign up through SkyMiles, he or she can book travel through Duke’s preferred travel agencies, American Express Travel and Cardinal Travel Service, and take advantage of the Delta-Duke partnership. For questions or help signing up for the program, contact Duke Procurement Customer Support at (919) 681-5900 or email procurement@duke.edu.
