Outdoor Sirens to be Tested Friday, Jan. 3

Sirens tested in morning and afternoon as part of upgrade

Outdoor Warning System
Duke will conduct testing of its outdoor sirens on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, as part of a system upgrade and regular maintenance.

The testing will be conducted within a one-hour period at two separate times during the day: at 9:30 a.m. and at 2 p.m.

These tests are not part of the broader DukeALERT notification system test, so no emails, text messages or other alert notifications will be issued in conjunction with the sirens. Individuals do no need to take any action as a result of the siren testing.

"We are constantly assessing and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of our emergency systems," said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president of administration and Duke's emergency coordinator. "This upgrade and maintenance are part of our regular review process and have been scheduled during a slower operational period to reduce disruption."
