Motorists traveling to and from East Campus along Campus Drive Saturday morning will need to plan a detour between 5:30 a.m. and noon due to construction of the West Main Street bridge.
On Saturday morning, construction crews will begin pouring concrete onto the bridge to lay the initial deck of the new road. During the pouring process, the Campus Drive underpass will be closed to motorist and pedestrian traffic. All other traffic and access points along Campus Drive will remain as is and the road will reopen for through traffic at noon.
The construction will temporarily impact Duke's C1 and C2 bus routes, which will detour around Smith Warehouse from Campus Drive to Maxwell Avenue while the underpass is closed. The bus routes will return to normal at noon.
Pouring concrete is the latest step in completing the West Main Street construction project, which is expected to be finished in late October. For more information about the effort, read Working@Duke's ongoing story highlighting work performed.
