The Class of 2017 Gets Its Closeup
One of the highlights of Orientation Week is streamed live online

Class of 2017: Time to tag yourself.
Working with Duke University Photography, the more than 1,700 students of the Class of 2017 took their place on the East Campus lawn and spelled out their class year, one of the traditional activities of Orientation Week.
The photograph was posted on the Duke University Facebook page, and members of the class quickly started identifying themselves among the crowd. In the first hour, nearly 800 people "liked" the image (as of Thursday morning, the total had risen to 1,400).
The photo shoot was streamed live online in a broadcast anchored by upper class students, who interviewed members of the Class of 2017 and university administrators such as dean of undergraduate education Steve Nowicki. To answer Nowicki's question, 2017 is a prime number, the first since the Class of 2011. Watch the broadcast below.
