PT Students Head to Norway to Meet With International Colleagues

Norway

Six students from Duke's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program headed to Norway in June to participate in the inaugural Global Health Summer Institute (GHSI). The group spent a week exploring international perspectives on health care at Bergen University College.

GHSI was designed to help students gain direct experience with foreign health care and rehabilitation systems. The program is an academic collaboration between Duke University, Bergen University College and Queens College (Canada). In 2014, Duke will host the institute, bringing Norwegian and Canadian students to Durham.

While in Norway, DPT students visited local clinics, collaborated with Norwegian and visiting Canadian students, and attended a series of lectures led by world-renowned physical therapists.  Dr. Michel Landry, chief of Duke's Doctor of Physical Therapy Division, gave several lectures at the Institute focusing on core competencies for physiotherapists working in global health, as well as social, economic and geopolitical determinants of health.
