Duke Researcher Robert Lefkowitz Wins Nobel Prize

Sophomore Emily Harris, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellow, spent her summer working in the lab of Nobel Prize winner Robert Lefkowitz, a Duke Medical Center faculty member. She shares her experiences on her blog, profiled here:

My experience this summer working in the Lefkowitz lab has been nothing short of incredible. I have learned so much over the course of a short two months. Dr. Wisler and Dr. Lefkowitz have both been extremely supportive of my endeavors to learn as much as possible during my time here by teaching me a wide variety of lab techniques, welcoming me into countless meetings, and trusting and encouraging me to conduct parts of experiments on my own. I have learned not only about the technical details of completing various protocols, but also about the analytical and problem-solving approaches required when conducting one’s own experiments and when collaborating with others in the lab. After having worked in the lab for 2 months, I am even more confident that I will pursue a career in science and that research will provide an excellent venue in which to fulfill my incessant curiosity. This has truly been a fantastic experience in so many ways.
