Hammerstein This Weekend: Music from Show Boat and Other Works

The Duke Opera Workshop is putting on their Broadway hats this weekend for two performances of "A Cockeyed Optimist: The Lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II."

Directed by Duke music faculty member Susan Dunn, the workshop will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in the Nelson Music Room in the East Duke Building.  Admission is free.

This musical revue will feature songs from shows for which Oscar Hammerstein wrote lyrics, including Desert Song, The New Moon, Rosemarie, High, Wide and Handsome, Show Boat, Carmen Jones, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Carousel, Allegro, The King and I, Cinderella, and The Sound of Music.
