Peter Feaver Takes Questions on U.S. Defense Strategy in Live Webcast Jan. 12
In advance of a campus address by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Feaver discusses American military strategy

Following the official end of the war in Iraq, President Obama announced the results of a review of Defense Department priorities. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, will discuss the review in an address at Duke Thursday, Jan. 12. In advance of Dempsey's talk, Professor Peter Feaver, a former member of the White House's National Security Council, will answer questions from viewers in a live "Office Hours" webcast Jan. 12 at noon on Duke University Ustream channel. In recent posts to his blog, Feaver has addressed Republican presidential primary debates about foreign policy, Obama's counterterrorism strategy and the future of Iraq."President Obama has repeatedly said that he has brought the Iraq war to a responsible close," he wrote. "Just how responsible a close it is depends on whether Iraq a year from now scores about as well on the following scale as it scores now: united, stable, peaceful, secure, democratic government that is an ally in the war on terror."To pose a question for Feaver, send an email -- before or during the webcast -- to live@duke.edu, Tweet with hashtag #dukelive or post to the Duke University Facebook page.Feaver served on President George W. Bush's national security team from 2005 to 2007 as the special advisor for strategic planning and institutional reform. He was also a member of the National Security Council staff under President Clinton. At Duke, he is a professor of political science and public policy and directs the university's American Grand Strategy program as well as the Triangle Institute for Security Studies.
