Traffic Advisory: Construction Deliveries

Motorists should allow for extra travel time Oct. 8, 11 and 12

Motorists traveling along the north part of West Campus should expect delays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on three upcoming days as Facilities Management delivers a 550-ton crane and 60,000-pound steam boiler to the West Campus Steam Plant. The delivery is part of Duke's renovations of the historic plant.

Starting at about 9 a.m. Oct. 8, 11 and 12, vehicles will slowly travel from Morreene Road to Erwin Road, before turning onto Research Drive and parking near the E.A. Morris Clinical Research Building. Road crew members will be stationed along the route to support safe movement of the delivery truck and general traffic.

Deliveries will occur these days:

  • Saturday, Oct. 8 - Ten tractor trailer trucks will deliver a 550-ton crane to the north side of the steam plant.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11 - A truck will deliver the steam boiler on a 110-feet long tractor trailer rig.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12 - Crews will dismantle the 550-ton crane and haul it away using 10 tractor trailer trucks.
