The event showcased devices created by students enrolled this summer in the electrical and computer engineering course "Microelectronic Devices and Circuits."

The class, taught by professor Kip Coonley, requires students to develop final design projects for original instruments whose functions can be tested.

"After the class, the best designs are placed on display or used later for future work by students and groups," said Coonley.

Working in teams, the students this summer produced a wireless power transmission system for mobile phones, an alarm clock that detects when a person gets back into bed, and the solar oven with mirrors that move to optimize the capture of solar energy.
