NCCU Chancellor to Discuss Race and Higher Education Nov. 18 at Duke
Duke Chapel Dean Sam Wells interviews Chancellor Charlie Nelms Thursday at 12:15 p.m.

North Carolina Central University Chancellor Charlie Nelms will speak at Duke Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 18, as part of a discussion about race and higher education with Chapel Dean Sam Wells.
The event begins at 12:15 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The discussion is part of the Chapel's Dean's Dialogue series, "Listening to the Heart of Durham."
"Dr. Nelms has attracted admiration for the vigor and realism with which he has addressed the challenges of education, especially among African Americans in Durham," Wells said. "This is an opportunity to discuss issues that are often avoided and to look to Dr. Nelms to offer a vocabulary and a vision for a new generation of thinking about race, education and excellence."
In the "Listening to the Heart of Durham" discussion series, Wells discusses topics surrounding the common good and the Duke-Durham relationship. Those who attend these events will have a chance to ask questions, too.
Past Dean's Dialogues include discussions with Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez, Fuqua School Dean Blair Sheppard, Medical School Dean Nancy Andrews, Sanford School Dean Bruce Kuniholm and Nicholas School School Dean Bill Chameides.
Recordings of these discussions are available on the Duke Chapel website.
