Raleigh Student Named Alumni Endowed Undergraduate Scholar at Duke

Award given to children or grandchildren of Duke alumni

Eason Michael Abbot, a senior at Broughton High School in Raleigh, has been named an Alumni Endowed Undergraduate Scholar at Duke University. The Duke Alumni Association established the scholarship in 1979 to recognize the academic and personal achievements of children or grandchildren of Duke alumni who are accepted for undergraduate admission to Duke. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement, leadership performance, and meritorious activity outside the classroom who also demonstrate financial need.

The Alumni Endowed Scholarship consists of the following:

-- A scholarship covering tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters of undergraduate academic studies, during which the scholar remains in good standing. The scholarship is available for a four-year undergraduate program.

-- An opportunity to participate in a summer-abroad course valued at no more than $6,500. -- An opportunity to meet with other scholarship recipients in an informal program that is conducted during each academic year. Abbot, of Raleigh, is the son of Jackie and Michael Abbott.
