Duke in Pictures: Stations of the Cross in the Chapel

Visitors to Duke Chapel can walk through 14 Stations of the Cross relief sculptures during the Lenten season. The Chapel commissioned the pieces from artist John Sylvestri, who lives in Croix Des Bouquets, outside of Port au Prince, Haiti.
The artist used all recycled materials (oil drums) in creating these elaborate works.
Chapel and Divinity School staff and students met Sylvestri during mission work in Haiti.
Above, Jesus carries his cross in one work hung under one of the Chapel's famous stained glass windows.
Below, a woman wipes sweat from Jesus as he carries the cross.
