Lee W. Willard Named Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

Change recognizes role in strategic planning, other areas

Lee W. Willard, associate dean for academic planning and special projects, has been appointed associate vice provost for undergraduate education, effective July 1.

Willard "has been a major contributor in our efforts to enhance undergraduate education," said Robert J. Thompson, dean of TrinityCollege and vice provost for undergraduate education, who announced the appointment.

"This appointment serves to recognize her role and to focus her responsibilities in the areas of strategic planning, grant writing, support of undergraduate research, liaison with Student Affairs, and communications," he said.

Willard has a bachelor's degree from AgnesScottCollege and a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

At Duke, she has been involved in the new Arts & Sciences strategic plan, the revision of the liberal arts undergraduate curriculum, the implementation of the East Campus residential plan, and a series of institutional grants for the first-year Focus Program, the University Writing Program and the Markets & Management certificate.
