Thomas A. Morrison Named Vice President, Facilities
Assumes new role on June 1, 2025

Thomas A. Morrison has been named vice president, facilities at Duke. His appointment will be effective June 1, 2025.
Morrison currently serves as Indiana University’s vice president for capital planning and facilities, a role he has held since 2009. In this position, Morrison serves as Indiana's chief capital, facilities, planning, and real estate officer overseeing all facility-related operations, acquisitions, and capital projects of Indiana University’s nine campuses and oversees an organization with nearly 1,000 employees. Under Tom’s leadership, Indiana University invested in and delivered on a $1.5 billion campus renewal program, an experience which will be particularly valuable as Duke launches its extensive West Campus research and teaching building renewal effort.
Morrison’s appointment follows a national search process co-chaired by Mohamed Noor, Executive Vice Provost, and Bob Weiseman, Deputy Director of Athletics/Operations and Capital Projects (see below for search committee membership). Executive search firm Helbling, a ZRG company, supported the committee’s work.

In this role, Morrison will lead Duke University’s planning, design, construction and renewal; engineering, utilities and energy; buildings and landscape; housekeeping; sanitization and recycling; and administrative functions.
Prior to his tenure at Indiana, Morrison held leadership roles at Ball State University and the University of Virginia. He holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Ball State University, a master’s degree from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver.

Morrison and his wife, Kathryn, have two adult children; a daughter who will graduate from Indiana University this spring and a son who serves in the U.S. Navy and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
Ennis said the university is beyond grateful to John Noonan for his leadership of the facilities organization and appreciates the efforts he and his leadership team will undertake to assure a seamless transition upon John’s retirement.
