Ranjan Jindal, vice president of Keohane Quad, Tara Singh, president of Keohane Quad, and Austin Brown, communications coordinator for Keohane Quad, lay a wreath at Duke’s 9/11 Memorial plaque. The memorial is near the grove of six trees planted behind Keohane Quad to commemorate the six Duke alumni killed during the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
The day, now known as Patriots Day, or the National Day of Service and Remembrance, marked the 23rd anniversary of the attacks that killed more than 2,900 Americans. Five of the alumni worked in the World Trade Center; one was on United Airlines Flight 175. All flags on the campus were lowered in memory of the victims of the attacks, their family members, and the sacrifices of the first responders.
Here are the alumni commemorated in the memorial:
J. Robinson Lenoir '84 Peter Ortale '87 Christopher Todd Pitman '93 Todd Rancke '81 Frederick C. Rimmele III M.D.'94 Michael Morgan Taylor '81
