Students Can Request Voter ID Card for 2024 Elections

Students must bring their mobile DukeCard or driver’s license to prove their identity when picking up their Duke Student Voter ID Card. The pickup process should take less than a minute. Unclaimed cards will be brought to the next card pickup event. Students who are unable to pick up their card at a designated event will receive additional information via email with instructions on how to claim it.

The Duke Student Voter ID Card is offered in addition to other types of identification permitted by state law for use by voters. Acceptable forms of ID include any of the following that is unexpired, or expired for one year or less:

  • North Carolina driver’s license
  • State ID from the NCDMV (also called “non-operator ID”)
  • Driver’s license or non-driver ID from another state, District of Columbia or U.S. territory (only if voter registered in North Carolina within 90 days of the election)
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport card
  • North Carolina voter photo ID card issued by a county board of elections
  • College or university student ID approved by the State Board of Elections
  • State or local government or charter school employee ID approved by the State Board of Elections

The following IDs are also acceptable, regardless of whether the ID contains an expiration or issuance date:

  • Military or veterans ID card issued by the U.S. government
  • Tribal enrollment card issued by a tribe recognized by the State or federal government
  • ID card issued by an agency of the U.S. government or the State of North Carolina for a public assistance program

The Duke Student Voter ID Card does not register you to vote. If you wish to use this card to vote in North Carolina, you must be registered to vote in North Carolina. For more information on registering to vote in North Carolina as a Duke student, visit the Duke Votes website.

The 2024 Primary Election will be held on March 5, 2024, with the early voting period open from February 15, 2024, through March 2, 2024. Duke University will have an early voting location on campus this year in Karsh Alumni Center.
