Jill Boy Appointed to Direct Duke's Centennial Celebration in 2024

Veteran Duke communications and marketing leader Jill Boy has been named executive director of the university’s upcoming Centennial Celebration that will take place in 2024, President Vincent E. Price announced Monday.

Boy, the associate dean and chief communications officer at the School of Medicine since 2012, will oversee the planning, coordination and implementation of the comprehensive effort to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the modern Duke University in 1924.  She will work with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community to create content and experiences for a wide range of stakeholders. 

“The Centennial is a singular moment for the Duke community,” said Price. “It is an opportunity to celebrate our remarkable success and reflect on the challenges of our history. But perhaps most important, it is a chance to educate ourselves and the world about our aspirations for Duke’s second century of discovery, learning and service to society. With her extensive and collaborative experience at Duke, Jill is the ideal person to lead that effort.”

As associate dean, Boy oversees the School of Medicine’s internal and external communications efforts to advance the missions of education, research and clinical care. She also leads the School of Medicine's Communicators Network, which includes staff from all the academic and clinical departments as well as centers and institutes.

Boy came to Duke in 2002 as the director of communications for the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she led the development of consumer and referring physician marketing strategies, patient education and internal communications initiatives, social media initiatives, and development and fundraising communications strategies. In 2010, she became the director of marketing and communications for the Duke Cancer Institute and played an integral role in marketing and communications efforts surrounding the creation of the new entity.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Boy was previously vice president of Phoenix Communications, a communications consulting firm.
