Duke Makes ‘Top-Producer’ List for Fulbright Awards

Duke University is one of the top producers of U.S. Fulbright student scholars, according to the U.S. Department of State. This marks the 16th year the university has received the distinction.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program. During the 2021-2022 academic year, ten Duke students and alumni were offered Fulbright awards to study, research and teach.
Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected through an open, merit-based competition in more than 100 different fields of study, and the program operates in over 140 countries throughout the world.
“Fulbright awardees are engaging in global ambassadorial experiences that will enhance their professional and personal journeys for the years to come. They are advancing cross-cultural collaborations in classrooms, research environments and in communities across the world,” says Karen Weber, Executive Director for the Office of University Scholars and Fellows at Duke. “It is a genuine privilege to support our graduating seniors, graduate students and alumni and to learn more about their international academic and professional pursuits.”
Weber adds that the leadership of the Nationally Competitive Scholarships advisors, as well as many faculty and staff members, support Duke's Fulbright candidate applications. This assistance includes helping with project proposals and performing interviews for the campus evaluation process.
The Fulbright Scholarship application process is open to Duke seniors, graduated alumni and graduate and professional students. The program is designed to facilitate cultural exchange and increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries.
