Death Reported on Campus

Authorities have identified the man found dead on Duke’s campus on Sunday, and the family has been notified. The deceased had no known affiliation with Duke, and no foul play was suspected.

“We have been in touch with the family and want to express our deep sympathies for their loss,” said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for Administration. “Out of respect for the family, we will not be releasing any other details regarding this case.”

On Sunday morning, an unidentified male was found dead in a wooded area behind Penn Pavilion on Duke’s West Campus.

At this time, authorities have not been able to identify the deceased, but he is not believed to be a student. Authorities do not suspect foul play. Duke University Police are on the scene and ask others to avoid the area at this time as they conduct their investigation.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
