Blessing All Creatures Great and Small

Local community brings its pets to Duke Chapel for Blessing of the Animals

A dalmation gets blessed at the Blessing of the animals

From a family of 200-pound wolfhounds to a rabbit and cockatoo, creatures of all size came to the grounds in front of Duke Chapel Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony.  Traditionally held on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, ministers from Duke Chapel and the local community gathered with owners and their pets and issued blessings as part of the worship service.

The Durham Children's Choir provided choral music. Additional photos from the event can be seen in a Duke Box folder.
