2021 Holiday Schedule for Staff in Academic Medical and Research Units

Change does not affect University holiday schedule

In response to clinical operational needs, the 2021 holiday schedule will be modified for staff in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, the Private Diagnostic Clinic, and Duke University Health System.

The designated holiday for Christmas Day will be observed on Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, and the designated holiday for New Year’s Day 2022 will be observed on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021. These dates will also be used by staff in Duke University Health System for the purposes of holiday premium payment related to the observance of the holidays.

Both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a Saturday, and originally the holidays were scheduled to be recognized on the following Mondays. The observance of the designated holidays is being moved to the previous Friday to align with clinical services and patient appointments.

This change does not impact the University Holiday Schedule, which includes 13 designated holidays such as Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The holiday schedule for 2022 will be released later this fall once approved.
