New Mural Captures Life & Work at Duke Health During the Pandemic

Some 24,000 Duke Health employees were on the front lines during the pandemic. Now, artist Sean Kernick has turned their portraits at work into an eight-panel mural hanging in the main hallway between Duke North and the Duke Medicine Pavilion.

Artist Sean Kernick says his intent was to spotlight all of the other team members’ hard work and sacrifices over the past year.

This installation, funded by The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, is now part of the Duke University Hospital Permanent Art Collection. You may also view this eight panel piece here.

“It's very exciting. I think I look much better on a mural,” said one Duke Health worker in a television interview on WRAL-TV.
