Dear Undergraduate Students,

We are looking forward to hosting an in-person commencement celebrating the Class of 2021's accomplishments on Sunday, May 2, 2021 from 9—11 a.m.

As I mentioned in my update earlier this month, our student and employee health experts and senior administrators have been actively exploring the possibility of expanding attendance at this event beyond undergraduate seniors who have been participating in our testing protocols this spring.

I am pleased to announce that—given the recent public health trends and the increased availability of vaccines—we are now able to invite all remote undergraduate seniors and undergraduates who completed the requirements for their studies in the fall or winter of 2020 to return for the in-person commencement ceremony. We ask that remote and recently graduated members of the Class of 2021 register their interest in attending here by April 15.

A few important notes: first, access to campus will be limited only to the official commencement exercises. Second, attendance at the commencement exercises will be ticketed, and remote and recently graduated students are required to register here in order to receive a ticket. And third, all students will have to continue to observe Duke Compact guidelines on masking, distancing, and gatherings.

I hope that this comes as welcome news in an uncertain year. We are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 in May!

Cheers,

Vincent E. Price
