Original Post:

Accidentally double-, and even triple- booking a slot on your calendar can throw a wrench into your day, especially during the busy back-to-school season. Simply scheduling appointments can be time-consuming.

This fall, anyone on campus can access Personal Bookings, a Microsoft 365 product that allows people to easily schedule one-on-one appointments with others using a unique link. Faculty may find Personal Bookings to be particularly helpful for scheduling office hours, for example.

Duke is one of the institutions helping pilot the product. It is part of the Microsoft 365 suite Duke has licensed.

How To Get Personal Bookings

Go to mail.duke.edu and click on the settings gear icon on the upper right. Search for ‘personal’ and a settings window opens. Under Publishing options, click to enable. To share your link, use the Copy Link or Share Link buttons. In this window you can also customize the length of the meeting and your availability.

How It Works

After you share your Personal Bookings link, a user can view your calendar, see when you are available and reserve a slot. Your calendar details will be kept private as users can only see available dates and times. Instead of emailing back and forth with you, they can choose a time that works for them, and book it. The appointment is set on your calendar. You can reschedule the appointment on your Outlook calendar.

Personal Bookings not only works with Outlook and Teams, it also can conveniently work with Zoom.  For those who would like to use Personal Bookings right away, this video guides you through the steps of creating a Zoom meeting using Personal Bookings.

For others, the Office of Information Technology will be hosting a series of Personal Bookings trainings in the coming weeks.

This week, trainings for Duke faculty and staff will be held on the following days and times:
