Nominations Open for Duke’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Awards
The deadline to nominate someone is Dec. 13
The Duke University Office for Institutional Equity is accepting nominations for staff, faculty and teams who make significant contributions toward enhancing diversity and inclusion within the Duke community.
The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award – known as the EDI Award – recognizes those who have demonstrated behavior or led initiatives that foster equity, diversity and inclusion. A nomination form, a nomination letter and up to five letters of support must be turned in by Dec. 13 to be considered.
Faculty must show a career commitment to diversity, research on diversity, student development and/or community service. Staff must show dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion through tangible strategies or support of under-represented groups within Duke.
“Advancing diversity, equity and inclusion is ongoing work that does not progress in an upward trajectory, so it is important to recognize and celebrate the victories along the way,” said Kimberly D. Hewitt, Vice President for Institutional Equity and Chief Diversity Officer.
Award recipients will be recognized on Feb. 11, 2020, during the Samuel DuBois Cook Society Awards Dinner.
The EDI Award is given annually to University and Health System employees.
The award winners in spring 2019 were the Nicholas School of the Environment Diversity & Inclusion “Actionators,” for creating a safe and inclusive environment, and Daniel Lew, the James B. Duke Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology Professor of Genetics, for his commitment to increasing diversity in the biomedical sciences.
