Beaufort Mayor Rett Newton talks during a Duke conference about his role in responding to storms.
During a panel discussion Wednesday at the Duke-sponsored conference, The Coming Storm: Using Science to Build Community Resilience, Beaufort Mayor Rett Newton talked about his appearance on CNN in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Newton said it's critical for information to get to people who remained and left during a storm so they know about hazards, resources and other issues. The event brought together Duke experts, environment groups, and local and state government officials who shared research, first-hand accounts and other information. Local media also attended.
