Flags Lowered to Honor the Passing of US Rep. Walter Jones

All flags on campus, including United States, North Carolina and Duke flags, will be lowered through sunset Feb. 14 to honor the late US Rep. Walter Jones, who died this weekend on his 76th birthday.

Jones represented North Carolina in Congress for 13 terms, having been first elected in 1994. NC Governor Roy Cooper ordered all US and North Carolina flags be lowered at state facilities; Duke, by tradition, follows state requests on lowered flags.

"I am grateful for the life and service of my longtime friend Congressman Walter Jones Jr,” Cooper said.”He was a public servant who was true to his convictions and who will be missed."
