Learning & Organization Development, a unit in Duke Human Resources, is introducing a new 12-month development program for middle managers that is designed to develop managers by providing multiple approaches to career enhancement and development. The aim is to provide learning opportunities in a structured, comprehensive and deliberate manner.

The "Duke Management Academy" is open to in the university and health system staff and faculty who are experienced managers ready for their next stage in leadership, managers expanding their careers or effectiveness in their current roles who want to sharpen their people-leadership skills, or high-potential individuals who wish to prepare for increased leadership roles.

Mid-level managers will be exposed to sessions focused on Personal Values, Strategic Thinking, Management Decision Making, Financial Management, Human Resources, Technology Development, Dealing and Developing People and Valuing Diversity. The cohort will complete an Emerging Leaders 360 leadership profile coupled with executive coaching. The group will be given an action learning case study connected with departmental sponsors and be partnered with a mentor throughout the program.

This program is part of Duke’s comprehensive and in-depth development model for staff in different career stages. Other programs based on this model include the Duke Leadership Academy and the Foundational Skills Program.

All nominees must have a job level 12-15 or below 98. Individuals interested in participating should submit their application packets by Aug. 16, 2018, to be considered. Eligible participants will be selected in September following the application process that includes the submission of the application, a nomination from a dean or vice president, an updated resume, a short essay, and a manager assessment form.
