Duke Begins Summer Paving Projects

Parking lot and roadway repairs may mean detours for some motorists

Duke will start a myriad of paving projects in parking lots and roadways across the University and Health System this summer.

Signs and crews will be present to advise motorists of work areas and detours.

Some major projects include:

  • 8 p.m. July 13 – 7 a.m. July 15: Science Drive from Towerview Road to Physics Circle will be closed for major roadway repairs. No traffic will be permitted past Towerview Road. Permit holders for the Bryan Center Parking Garage and Science Lot should park at the Allen Lot, Card Gym Lot or Chemistry Lot.  Visitors should park at the Science Drive Visitor Parking Lot.
  • July 17 – Aug. 12: The GC (Graduate Center) Lot will be paved in phases. Some permit holders may have to park in the section of the lot closest to the intersection of Anderson Street and Erwin Road.
  • 8 p.m. July 27 – 6 p.m. July 28: Trent Drive from Erwin Road to Parking Garage 1 will be closed to install three crosswalks. Drivers must use Flowers Drive to access Parking Garage 1, the Duke Clinics, Duke Medicine Pavilion and Duke Cancer Center.
  • Late July: The bus loop at the Duke Medicine Pavilion and Duke Cancer Center will be closed for roadway repairs Friday night to Aug. 13. Most of the work will take place after 6 p.m. on weekends. Pedestrian access to the DMP and Cancer Center will be minimally detoured.
