Duke Statement on Supreme Court Travel Ban Ruling

On Tuesday, June 26, the Supreme Court denied a challenge to the President’s Executive Order restricting the travel of individuals from seven countries (Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen) to the United States.  Duke University President Vincent E. Price made the following statement in response to the decision:

“While we are disappointed that the Supreme Court chose to uphold even the limited version of a travel ban, this decision does not in any way diminish our commitment to supporting members of our university community who come to Duke from around the world for opportunities to teach, learn and discover new knowledge.  We continue to believe that our educational mission, and the free exchange of ideas and scholarship, can co-exist with safety, security and protection from those who seek to cause harm to our country.”
