Carol Hill and her husband Barry joined the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club's Executive Club to get discounts on meals while celebrating special occasions. And before long, the meals became the events worth celebrating.

The Inn’s special dinners – which are usually built around a seasonal theme or pairing food with products from a visiting winery or brewery – are among the most-anticipated activities on the Hill’s calendar.

“We go to almost all of them,” said Hill, a clinical trials project leader with Duke Clinical Research Institute. “We don’t just enjoy the food, we enjoy the events.”

And because of a special membership offer for Duke employees, the couple enjoys discounts on dining at the Inn, including special dinners and events.Members of the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club's Executive Club earn discounts of as much as 50 percent on meals.
Through June 15, Duke employees who join for the first time can enjoy the perks of the Classic membership at the Washington Duke Inn at a savings. A new Classic membership, which is regularly $379, is $284. Platinum memberships are also discounted until June 15.

Among the perks, the Classic membership includes an unlimited number of dining discounts up to 50 percent off in the restaurants, vouchers for a free Afternoon Tea, a free Saturday Brunch for two and a free dessert platter for as many as eight people.

Classic members also receive two complimentary guest room nights for you or a guest, a complimentary private meeting room rental for up to 30 guests, and a 25% discount for a group of 10-16 people to the Fairview Dining Room.

“If people have ever thought of taking advantage of this, it’s a great time to do so, this is an excellent time to do so,” said Danielle Kaspar, Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club director of community relations and executive club. “Our members really love the dining with us whether it is in the dining room or on our outdoor terracce. Additionally with the room nights, the membership more than pays for itself. … I call it the best-kept secret in the Triangle.”

Ed Gomes, senior associate dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences’ Office of Technology Solutions, said he gets plenty from his membership. He often entertains out of town guests at the Inn, hosts an annual lunch for co-workers celebrating career service milestones and regularly dines at the Inn with his wife.

“My wife and I say they’ve got the best crab cakes south of Baltimore,” Gomes said. “I’m also a big fan of their shrimp and grits. The staff there is tremendous. When you walk in the door, they know your name. They always make you feel welcome.”
