Jewish members of the Class of 2018 celebrated their journey at Duke with the Jewish baccalaureate service Friday night at the Freeman Center for Jewish Life. Around 35 students and more than 100 family members participated in the event.
Durham Mayor and Duke alumnus and faculty member Steve Schewel addressed the students and welcomed them into the community of Duke alumni. Schewel talked about his own journey at Duke as well as the connection between Jewish values and social justice. He charged the new graduates to use their education and values to make the world a better place.
