Duke is an innovative place to be right now. With over 300 inventions, 85 issued patents, and 11 new start-ups, we’re turning our world class research into viable commercial products.
Inventors, licensees, investors, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in partnering with Duke is invited to attend the first Invented at Duke Celebration on Oct. 16 at The Washington Duke Inn.
Invented at Duke is an opportunity to meet with University researchers commercializing technologies such as a puncture-proof vascular graft, silicone microspheres, improved eye disease imaging, and many other cutting-edge innovations generated by the more than $1 billion in research conducted annually at Duke.
The event, jointly hosted by the Office of Licensing & Ventures (OLV) and the Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) Initiative, will be honoring all the faculty, staff, and students whose scientific creativity resulted in an invention disclosure, an issued patent, a start-up, or a license with a commercial partner. As a sincere thank you for their time and effort partnering with us each inventor will be receiving a unique gift.
This celebration focuses on the significant progress Duke is making to become a leader in transferring its knowledge and innovations to the worldwide community. It also serves as a reminder that our faculty inventors are a vital component to all areas of the innovation ecosystem.
“While Duke has been quite successful with pharmaceutical products on the market such as Myozyme and Krystexxa, we are pleased with the increase in a wide variety of new innovations disclosed to the office," said Robin Rasor, Executive Director of OLV and architect behind the celebration event. "Now OLV is focusing on improving our services for innovators and entrepreneurs to ensure that Duke innovations reach the marketplace for the betterment of society.”
“Invented at Duke celebrates the work of the faculty, staff, and students who embody Duke’s core mission of research in service to society," said Duke President Vincent Price, who be speaking at the event around 5:30 p.m. "I look forward to learning more about the university’s successes in innovation and commercialization, which will be a major focus of my term as President.”
