Switch Out Health, Prescription Cards for 2017
New Account Numbers for Express Scripts and Duke Select/Duke Basic Plans
New health care and prescription membership cards are being mailed out this week to all faculty and staff covered under the health plan for 2017.
The prescription cards from Express Scripts and health insurance cards for Duke Select and Duke Basic from Aetna (formerly Coventry) will have new account numbers for 2017 and must be used beginning January 1, 2017. “Otherwise, the insurer will not recognize your coverage and may incorrectly deny your claim,” said Jane Walbrun, associate director for Benefits.
Participants in Blue Care and Duke Options, plans provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield, will have the same account numbers as last year; however, the prescription cards through Express Scripts will change account numbers.
Express Scripts will automatically update account numbers for participants using mail-order prescriptions, but members must present the new cards with the 2017 account number at retail pharmacies, including participating Duke pharmacies, to process prescriptions beginning January 1.
Duke Human Resources advised faculty and staff who do not receive their new cards prior to January 1 to contact the appropriate insurance provider below to request a new card:
- Aetna: 1-800-385-3636
- Express Scripts: 1-800-717-6575
Express Scripts also offers a mobile app that includes a virtual member ID card and other features. The app can be downloaded for free through the Apple App Store or Android App Store (Google Play). Members can sign in now using their existing member ID, and the app will automatically update their member ID in 2017.
