Fall Favorites: A Guide to Carving a Duke Blue Devil Pumpkin

Watch the Duke Blue Devil Pumpkin come to life this Halloween!

A Guide to Carving a Duke Blue Devil Pumpkin

Halloween is just a week away, and members of the university community can use the Blue Devil to help keep those evil spirits away.  Here are two videos to get you ready for the holiday.

Above, watch the Blue Devil pumpkin come to life and shine in Duke Gardens. If you want to reproduce this image, we've attached a template for the Blue Devil mask here.

Below, a follow-up video shows what you can do with all the pumpkin seeds after you've gutted the beast.  (For an alternative taste, add tamari instead of olive oil!)

There's plenty of other ways to celebrate Halloween at Duke:

You can use the pumpkin carving tips and participate in the Duke Dining pumpkin carving contest. Visit the Medical Center Archives and learn about death masks, spine-chilling (and probing) medical instruments and other eerie items from the collection. Or rent a horror movie DVD from Lilly Library!

Finally, Duke Chapel will hold its tradtional All Hallow's Eve service at 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
