When 4-year-old Autumn-Skye attended her first “Disney on Ice” show last year, she was dressed to impress any space rangers she might encounter. Her homemade uniform, complete with jet pack wings and a wrist control panel, mirrored that of Buzz Lightyear, the space hero from Disney’s “Toy Story.”

Autumn-Skye attended “Disney on Ice” with her grandmother, Tracy Goldston, and mother, and they saved a few dollars off each ticket using a Duke employee discount. During the show, they saw ice-skating fish from “Finding Nemo” and a castle transform into ice from “Frozen.”

“The whole thing was a great deal. We had good seats,” said Goldston, a triage nurse at the Duke Raleigh Hospital Cancer Center. “It was really cute because everyone else at the performance were all dressed as princesses, and she kind of stood out being a little girl with a Buzz Lightyear costume on.”

In December, “Disney on Ice” presents “Follow Your Heart,” an ice-skating performance that includes characters from “Finding Dory,” “Inside Out,” “Frozen” and “Toy Story,” as well as Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The nationwide tour will be at PNC Arena in Raleigh December 8 through December 11.

Through Duke’s employee discount program, PERQS, staff and faculty pay $16 per ticket for select seats on opening night December 8. Employees  save $4 per ticket on other shows December 9 through 11 (Regular ticket prices start at $23). The discounts exclude front row and VIP seats. Tickets must be purchased for children 2 and older.

Tickets can be ordered through Ticketmaster using promo codes found on the Duke PERQS website, which requires a Duke NetID and password for access.

Goldston said she and her daughter are considering taking Autumn-Skye to “Disney on Ice” again this year.

Last year's show “had every character, and it was really fun because they came around and skated and they waved to everyone,” Goldston said. “It was really good special effects. The place was full of kids and you could hear them just gasping.”
