Alert: Incident Reported in Residence Hall

A student on East Campus recently reported to another student that while she and her roommate were asleep in their room, a male came into her room and attempted to get into bed with her. The suspect left after she and her roommate screamed.  

The incident occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday in Randolph Residence Hall, and the students went back to sleep. The incident was reported to Student Affairs later in the day. 

The student has refused to speak to police, and there is no description of the suspect. This message is being sent to all Duke students, faculty and staff in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (also known as the Clery Act), which requires colleges and universities to provide timely notification to members of the university community of certain crimes reported on campus. 

Police encouraged residents on campus to lock their doors and report any safety concerns. Anyone with additional information about to this incident, please contact the Duke University Police Department at (919)684-2444.
