Ciompi Quartet Returns to Duke Gardens Beginning June 14

Ciompi in Duke gardens

For the past five years, the Ciompi Quartet has made Duke Gardens its summer home.

In the summer, the Ciompi Quartet goes to the gardens.

The university’s celebrated string quartet will begin the fifth season of its summer chamber music series in Duke Gardens beginning Tuesday, June 14.

All concerts begin at 7:30pm and will take place in Kirby Horton Hall in the Doris Duke Center in the Gardens.

These concerts consistently sell-out, and the audience continues to delight in an intimate and relaxed setting. In between the pieces, quartet members share individual curatorial insights and programming inspirations.

This summer the series begins with a program presented by Jonathan Bagg that builds on his study of light and shadow where he compares composers, styles and virtuosity. Eric Pritchard will again delve into the works of Bach, this time questioning the original intention for these works.  Fred Raimi will end the series, this time adding voice and violin to his memorable piano and cello duo repertoire.

The series is sponsored by the Duke Department of Music, Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts and Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
