To the Duke Community,

We are pleased to share with you the report from the Task Force on Bias and Hate Issues.  In November 2015, we charged the Task Force with a broad review of Duke’s policies, practices and culture as they pertain to bias and hate in the Duke student experience.  We applaud the work of the task force, which met regularly during the first four months of this year.  Under the leadership of Kelly Brownell and Linda Burton, and comprising 29 faculty, administrators, alumni, and undergraduate and graduate students, the task force did an outstanding job of exploring difficult issues that have surfaced at Duke over the past year.  Their recommendations will guide us as we seek to ensure that the Duke community lives up to its values of inclusion and respect for all of its members.

We encourage you to read the report, which is available at the following link.  Over the summer we will consider the report and its recommendations, and in the fall we will take actions to advance the work of the task force.

Once again, our deepest thanks to Kelly, Linda, and the members of the task force.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Brodhead, President

Sally Kornbluth, Provost
