On the 135th anniversary of Julian Abele's birthday Saturday, Duke University has launched an online walking map of the buildings and other landmarks on the university's campus that the noted African-American architect helped design.

As chief designer in the offices of Horace Trumbauer, Abele gave form to the brick halls and gothic towers of Duke University’s East and West Campuses.

To recognize the contributions of Julian Abele, the university has named the main quadrangle encompassing the original academic and residential buildings Abele Quad. Abele Quad goes from the steps leading up to Clocktower Quad to the steps leading up to Davison Quad, and north to the Chapel Quad. More than 30 buildings and spaces designed by Abele are now part of Abele Quad.

The map denotes 33 sites on East and West campuses that can be connected to Abele's designs.
