Bennett to Lead Society of Behavioral Medicine
Gary Bennett Jr., Bishop-MacDermott Family Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, Global Health and Medicine at Duke, has been named president-elect of the Society of Behavioral Medicine.
The 2,200-member organization includes researchers, clinicians and educators. The members study how behavior, biology and the environment interact and design research-based interventions aimed at improving health and well-being.
Bennett will serve as president-elect for a year before becoming society president in April 2017.
He plans to increase the organization’s training and mentoring activities and to look for new ways to disseminate members’ research findings.
Bennett directs Duke Digital Health, which uses digital technologies to improve health among medically vulnerable populations. He also leads the Duke Obesity Prevention Program.
