An image capturing the recreation of summers long past is the latest winner in Working@Duke’s #DukeTimeOff campaign.

Vera Luck, associate director for University Foundation Relations, shared a photo below of her 8-year old daughter fishing at Cookneck Lake near Motley, Minnesota, where she caught several sunfish during her morning angling at the end of June.

“This year, I wanted my kids to have an old fashioned Midwestern summer like I used to have: campfires, fishing, swimming, running around outdoors and scratching mosquito bites,” Luck wrote in her online submission. “Spending time with family is essential to my happiness and wellbeing, as is giving my ‘work brain’ a rest.”

For showing how her family spent vacation this summer, Luck will receive lunch at the Washington Duke Inn’s Fairview Dining Room

The photo is one of nearly 200 submitted on Instagram, Twitter and through an online submission form by faculty and staff exploring the state, country and world. One big prize remains to be handed out the week of July 20: an overnight stay with breakfast at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club.

Three summer-themed prize packs will also be awarded to three participants at the end of the photo campaign in August. Employees can continue to share images through Aug. 10 on social media with #DukeTimeOff or by using this online form

In recent weeks, faculty and staff have shared unique pictures capturing food, family time and more.

Susan Gurley, associate professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, had her photo taken at the Angkor Thom temple in Cambodia while on her way to visiting the Duke-National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School in Singapore.

“This side trip allowed me to have some free time and explore a very unique place in the world,” she said.

Lee Walls, an IT analyst with Trinity Technology Services, recently spent a family vacation at Nags Head, North Carolina, where he created a collage of photos from a fishing trip on Jennette’s Pier.

Over the Fourth of July holiday, Jessica Burgess, marketing manager with Duke’s Carolinas Cord Blood Bank, posted to Instagram with the question, “Who knew #oldglory could be so tasty?”
